Observing Juneteenth as a paid holiday is only one part of the University’s broader commitment to recognizing its significance and to promoting racial equity and justice. With this in mind, a planning committee chaired by Dr. Tyina Steptoe and Dr. Treya Allen has developed a yearlong program, Beyond Juneteenth, as a means of promoting awareness of the holiday and its significance within the struggle for racial justice in the United States.
